1966 Triumph TR4A
Triumph updated it's TR4 in January 1965 and renamed it as the TR4A. The new car featured independent rear suspension in place of the traditional "live" rear axle. This new arrangement improved the ride and handling but did also increase the overall weight of the car. TR purists were horrified!

Externally the TR4A now had a redesigned grille with sidelights mounted in front wing pods that capped the new chrome side mouldings. The TR4A still offered good performance and continued to sell well until the arrival of the six cylinder TR5 in 1967.

Our Signal Red TR4A has led an interesting life - a RHD export model sent to Hong Kong when new, YTA 198E was one of 23 cars that competed in the first classic car race at the Macau Grand Prix meeting in 1983. Purchased by my brother Simon in Hong Kong in 1995, the car was shipped back to Devon, restored completely over five years and has been used very sparingly since. It remains in "as new" condition throughout. As an export model, it is not fitted with a heater, something to bear in mind if booking outside the summer months.
